The guitarist’s ukulele
The baritone ukulele is tuned D G B E (D3 G3 B3 E4), the same as strings 4 to 1 of a guitar. Guitar chord shapes for those strings work without any changes.
Its tuning is lower, and its strings go in order from low to high (not re-entrant). That gives it a warmer sound than soprano, concert and tenor ukuleles.

Frequently asked questions
How is a baritone ukulele tuned?
D3 G3 B3 E4 from the 4th string to the 1st, matching the four highest strings of a guitar.
Can I tune a baritone ukulele to GCEA?
Yes, but you need a set of GCEA strings made for baritone ukuleles. Some players do this so they can use the same songbooks as other ukuleles. Regular baritone strings would be too tight at that pitch.
Why are my chord shapes different from other ukuleles?
Baritone tuning is a fourth lower than G C E A, so the same shape gives a different chord. For example, a G shape on a soprano is a D chord on a baritone.
