Cello tuning

The cello is tuned C G D A in fifths, one octave below the viola. Tune the A first, then D, G and C. Use the fine tuners for the last small adjustment.

How to tune your cello online

    Press Start tuning and allow access to the microphone. Hold your cello 20–50 cm from the mic.

    Pluck one string and let it ring. Auto mode shows the closest string. To stay on one string, switch to Manual.

    If the needle is on the left, tighten the string to raise the pitch. If it is on the right, loosen it. Stop when the needle is in the middle and turns green.

What are the cello string notes?

How do I tune the low C string?

Bow the C string steadily for two seconds. Low strings take a moment to settle before the reading is steady.

Do orchestras tune to 440 or 442 Hz?

Both are common. Set the reference pitch in the tuner settings to match the group you play with.
