Practise smarter with a metronome
Set a tempo where you can play a passage perfectly, then raise it in small steps. The speed trainer does this for you, for example by adding 5 BPM every 4 bars until it reaches your target.
Use subdivisions to practise eighths, triplets and sixteenths. Tap a beat dot to make it silent, so you learn to keep time on your own.
How to use the metronome
Why use it
A steady click keeps your timing even and lets you speed up a passage in small, controlled steps.
How to use it
Set the tempo with the slider or the + and − buttons, press Start, and tap the beat dots to make a beat accented, normal or silent.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the BPM of a song?
Press Tap (or the T key) in time with the beat four or more times. The metronome then sets itself to the average tempo. There is also a separate tap tempo page.
What is a good tempo to practise at?
Start slow enough to play cleanly, often 60–80 BPM. When you can play the passage three times without mistakes, raise the tempo by 5 BPM. The speed trainer can do this for you.
Can I change the accents?
Yes. Tap any beat dot to switch between accent, normal and silent. Silent beats help you learn to feel the beat on your own.
Is the online metronome accurate?
Clicks are timed with the Web Audio clock, so the timing is sample-accurate. It doesn’t drift, even if the page is busy or in a background tab.
